Caroline Miller is proud to be one a handful of men and women around the world who were admitted into the 2005 inaugural class at the University of Pennsylvania in their Masters in Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP)
program, which is where she studied a
variety of subjects under the tutelage of
Marty Seligman, the acknowledged “Father of
Positive Psychology.” While at Penn,
Caroline focused on the scientific links
between goal setting, success and happiness
for her capstone project, which was later
turned into
Creating Your Best Life: The Ultimate Life List Guide (Sterling 2009), which was the first mass market book on the topic. It is used by professionals and coaches around the world, both in study groups and with their clients.
In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis on identifying what’s “right” with people instead of diagnosing and treating what’s “wrong” through therapy or a consulting approach. Professional coaching from the individual to the corporate level are now infusing their approach with Positive Psychology, which is increasingly becoming a “must have” education for working with people around change, leadership and goal success.

Coaches who are rigorously trained in Positive Psychology have many advantages over coaches who are unfamiliar with the importance of emotional flourishing in all areas of life. Among the benefits of working with coaches who are educated about happiness research are that their clients can:
• Increase and amplify positive emotions for
significant change
• Identify client strengths and their potential
application in goal achievement
• Create opportunities for “flow” and understand
their significance in life
• Increase hope, motivation, resilience and optimism
• Learn to prime the environment to assist in goal
accomplishment
• Learn why the ratio of positive to negative
comments has a profound impact in relationships,
work environments, and personal life
• And much more
